Rahm takes out his 1st LIV individual title

LIV: Rahm silences the critics

The 5 things you need to know from LIV UK:

  • Jon Rahm silenced his critics by taking out his first individual win since joining the LIV Golf League and leading Legion XIII to their 4th team victory. Rahm shot a final round 67 to finish at 13-under, and then had to watch as his teammate Tyrrel Hatton had a putt to force a playoff. Hatton slid the 5-footer past the hole on the low side which secured the victory for Jon. In an emotional display, Rahmbo shared some insight into family struggles he has experienced this year and commented that he is relieved to have finally gotten over the hump.

  • Cam Smith swung back into some form (following a horror showing at The Open last week) to finish T2 with Hatton and Joaquin Niemann (who continues to play well on LIV but not so in the Majors). Smithy had solid rounds of 66, 66 and 69 to be right in the mix. So hopefully this is a sign of things to come for the Aussie who has not produced his best this year.

  • Andy Ogletree went into final round with a 2-shot lead posting back-to-back rounds of 65 on Friday and Saturday. He opened with a couple of early birdies on Sunday, which saw him take 4-shot lead. But 3 double bogeys in his final round cost him, including back-to-back doubles coming down the stretch on 14 and 15. He finished T6.

  • The Aussie boys, Ripper GC, overcame some adversity this week with Marc Leishman withdrawing due to appendicitis. He was ably replaced by fellow Aussie, Wade Ormsby, and the Rippers delivered another strong result to finish 2nd in team event (which now has them sitting 3rd overall in the season standings). The ever-solid Crushers rounded out the team podium in 3rd.

  • JCB Golf and Country Club looked a great course. It is one of the most exclusive courses in the UK and there were some question marks over how it would play for some of the worldā€™s best. However, it provided a decent challenge, and the Party Hole (14th) was giving off Watering Hole vibes from Adelaide. As you would expect, a few of the lads got loose and one spectator fell into bunker, but nothing too out of hand. The crowds were around 15,000 each day, which LIV promoted as being ā€œsold outā€. Not sure thatā€™s what we would call a sell-out when compared to other events like LIV Adelaide or the Waste Management Open, but the event is young and certainly building which is great for world golf.

PGAT: Vegas returns to winnerā€™s circle

The 5 things you need to know from the 3M Open:

  • Jhonny Vegas ended a 7-year drought winning at TPC twin cities. His victory completed a successful comeback from injury. He birdied the last hole, with an excellent 2-putt from almost 100 feet, to win by 1 shot.

  • Vegas held off a fast-finishing Max Greyserman, who shot an 8-under 63 in final round to roar into contention. This included a Sunday back 9 of 30 (-6) which in the end would fall just short of forcing a playoff.

  • Matt Kuchar wound back the clock to finish T3 for the event. He was 1 shot off the lead going into the final round and must have been thinking he could close this one out given the lack of field strength and his experience relative to the other contenders. But it was not to be for Kuch - however we did have fun reminiscing about Kuchā€™s El Tucan Caddy scandal from the 2018 Mayakoba Classic. Will he ever be able to shake this? We think not!

  • Sahith Thegala, one of the stronger names in the field, gave himself a chance of victory in the final stages on Sunday. But a water ball on 18 led to bogey and ended his chances.

  • Aussie Cam Davis was 5th through 54 holes, and in a decent spot. But he was unable to fire on Sunday, losing 4 shots over 8 holes and finishing T19. The only other Aussie in the field, Aaron Baddeley, slogged his way to T53.

šŸ“Quick Bites

Here are some golf quick bites for you to snack on:

  • Aussie Richard Greenā€™s stellar senior Major form - What an incredible Major season for the veteran Aussie. He has finished 2nd behind KJ Choi at The Senior Open played at Carnoustie. This great result adds to his 2nd at the Senior PGA Championship and 3rd at the US Senior Open. Great stuff Greeny!

  • LIV schedule for 2025 leaked - there looks to be quite a few changes ahead for LIVā€™s schedule next year if leaked info is accurate. LIV Adelaide will be moving up to the second event of the season (from April to February) and there will be new venues added like Tokyo, South Korea, Europe (TBD), Indianapolis and Mexico City. Locations on the chopping block include Las Vegas, Houston, Miami, Mayakoba and maybe Valdarama.

  • Trump and Brysonā€™s YouTube success - these two big personalities have gone viral with their Breaking 50 YouTube video which we covered in last weekā€™s newsletter. It now has over 9 million views and Bryson added more than 300,000 new subscribers after release of the content. Trump has also been talking about the video at his political rallies where he stated ā€œI helped him a lotā€ and ā€œHeā€™s the longest hitter on Tour, he just won the U.S. Open, heā€™s a handsome guy, heā€™s a great guy, he loves the people, loves the countryā€.
