šŸ† Results Recap

Aussie Cam Davis takes out his 2nd PGAT title

PGAT: Davis fires up the Rockets

The 5 things you need to know from the Rocket Mortgage Classic:

  • Cam Davis has become the only two-time winner of the Rocket Mortgage Classic.  Davis clearly loves Detroit Golf Club as both of his 2 PGAT wins have materialised here.  Davis, who has not been in the best of form this season, reportedly saw a hypnotist to assist with his ā€œnegative self-talkā€. We suspect Cam might continue with the treatment if these are the results šŸ˜‚.

  • Akshay Bhatia, who opened with a smoking round of 64, looked most likely to win for basically the whole tournament. He was tied for the lead with Davis coming down the 18th but finished with a tragic 3-putt bogey (only his 2nd bogey all week) to hand the win to Davis. To his great credit, Bhatia fronted the media afterwards to answer the tough questions (maybe Rory could take note šŸ¤”).

  • Aussie flusher, Min Woo Lee, got cooking on Saturday with a round of 66 to get into good position on the leaderboard. He had 2 chip-ins during the final round (including a crucial one on 15 which got him a share of the lead). But a sloppy bogey on 18 would see him finish 1-shot adrift of Davis. Nonetheless, you feel itā€™s only a matter of time before he cracks his first PGAT win.

  • Aaron Rai, the Englishman with 2 gloves, slow play and iron covers, gave himself a real chance this week. It was one of the few times weā€™ve seen him with a legitimate chance to win, and his final round driver-off-the-deck to reach the par 5 14th in 2 was ballsy. Nonetheless, we find the slow play and 2 gloves too much too cope with šŸ’€.

  • Cam Young - will this guy ever win?  It is crazy to know that he has zero PGAT wins.  Weā€™ve seen him contend in some of the biggest events on the planet, but it seems when he gets a real sniff, he just canā€™t close. He faded late again down the stretch this week and the self-doubt inside of him has to be really gnawing away.

US Senior Open: More Blandemonium

The 5 things you need to know from the US Senior Open:

  • Inclement weather forced a Monday finish for the US Senior Open, which produced more Blandemonium as Dicky Bland won the tournament in a playoff at Newport Country Club over Japanā€™s Hiroyuki Fujita.

  • Blandy overcame 5 shot deficit at the start of the final round to snare his 2nd consecutive Major on the 4th playoff hole, whilst Fujita faded in the final round with a 1-over par round of 71.

  • At age 51, Blandy has now won his first 2 Senior Majors right out of the gate.  Despite this, he is still not in the field for Senior Open at Carnoustie as it clashes with the LIV event at JCB.

Blandy snares his 2nd Senior Major in as many attempts

  • The US Senior Open saw more success for Aussie Richard Green who finished 3-shots back of the leaders in 3rd place. This result is straight off the back of his 2nd place at the Senior PGA Championship.

  • There were strong performances from big names Steve Stricker, Vijay Singh and Ernie Els, who all finished inside the top 10.

šŸ“Quick Bites

Here are some golf quick bites for you to snack on:

  • LIV Golf and Chambers Bay in discussions - LIV Golf & Chambers Bay are in talks for the epic course to be a potential tournament site after the venue was snubbed from U.S. Open hosting. This would be a massive win for LIV as it seeks to improve its course rotation.

  • Nelly Korda bitten by a dog - which led to her withdrawal from the Ladies European Tour event at Centurion (England). In a statement via Instagram, she said she needed time to recover, but didnā€™t give an exact return date. Itā€™s expected she will play in 2-weeksā€™s time at the next ladies Major, the Evian Championship.

  • Biden and Trump trade vanity handicap stories - with all the issues the US is facing, youā€™d think the Presidential Debate between Trump and Biden on CNN would be very serious stuff. And actually it was - with the pair arguing over who can hit the ball further and who has the better (vanity) handicap. Take a look below at Shepmatesā€™ calling the play šŸ¤”.

  • Jason Day planning to return to Australia this year - Day has indicated his intention to come back to Australia at the end of the year, saying that his kids have never seen Australia (this is a disgrace!!!) and heā€™d like to show them where he grew up at Beaudesert. Letā€™s hope he also plays in the Australian PGA and Australian Open (if there is one).

  • Mark Darbon appointed Chief Executive of The R&A - the 45-year-old CEO of Premiership Rugbyā€™s Northampton Saints will take over for the retiring Martin Slumbers in November.
